Welcome to my blog, SysAdmin Valley. I am Matt Shields and for the past 14 years I have been a programmer, network engineer, windows administrator, linux/unix systems administrator, audio recording engineer and live audio (concert) engineer, technical manager, CTO and an entrepreneur. I’m usually known by most for being a Jack-Of-All-Trades, although I’m honored to also be called husband and father. I also enjoy biking, motorcycles, cooking, skiing, playing guitar (and music in general).
I started my computer journey when I got my first Commodore computer in the early 80’s and learned how to operate a BBS, and from that point I have not stopped. Of course back then the Internet was nothing like it is today, but as time has gone on I have taken every opportunity to evolve with the Internet. Over the years I have launched a number of online businesses, my first was Cyberbite, a web hosting business that I started in 1998 and the latest being BeanTownHost.com (BeanTown Communications, Inc) which is a full service Internet and consulting business. We offer services ranging from shared web hosting to more complicated large scale clustered hosting environments.
Sysadmin Valley was started first as a place to keep notes on general day to day sysadmin tips and tricks because in my old age (I’m 35) I can’t remember everything. But second, because I also wanted to start it as a way to help other sysadmin’s that might come across similar problems and give us a place to share our experiences with others.
